Liebeslieder Walzer Op 52 (Op 65)

Liebeslieder Walzer Opus 52 (Love Song Waltzes) by Johannes Brahms, are 18 short songs set for soprano, alto, tenor and bass quartet, and piano (4 hands). The Liebeslieder libretto is from “Polydora, ein weltpoetisches Liederbuch,” by the German poet and philosopher Georg Friederich Daumer (1800-1875). These waltz settings pay tribute to Johann Strauss, who was greatly admired by Brahms.

Sometimes this work is performed by choirs instead of soloists. And to this end we have made this rehearsal training aid as we would normally make it for choirs. Usually for soloists we highlight soloist parts on wind instruments, but for choral use we have highlighted vocal notes on piano. (Soloists will also find this helpful).

Due to the nature of this work (accompanied by piano), we have included an extra set of recordings where the vocal parts are played on wind instruments without the piano accompaniment, and with a single voice highlighted on piano. We believe this is necessary so as to avoid any confusion with the piano accompaniment. We have also provided it WITH piano accompaniment as well.
