Mass in A major (Messe solennelle in A major) Op.12

Mass in A major (Messe solennelle in A major) Op.12

The César Franck Mass in A major (Messe solennelle in A major, Op.12) was originally composed for Soprano Tenor and Bass Choir and soloists. There are also versions arranged for Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass Choir with Soloists.

Note Perfect provides BOTH version in a single package. The versions that Note Perfect supplies are the original version, and the four part version as published by Carus. In both versions some parts are further divided into 2 parts.

Both the 3 part and 4 part versions are harmonically compatible with each other. However only the Soprano part is identical for both versions. The Tenor and Bass parts have differences in each version.

The soloists parts are minimal, however it has become the practice for soloists to be allocated parts from the choir, so reducing the choir participation. This is likely to vary from performance to performance, though some editions give suggestions. Note Perfect provides maximum choral parts for the choir. Singers need to be aware of additional soloist parts from their music director. Please scroll down for more IMPORTANT information and to listen to samples.

  • Soloist participation is minimal in the original version; it is as follows :-
    • Tenor Solo: Qui tollis peccata, bars 94 to 145

However, it is probable that soloists will be allocated more to sing using some of the choir parts, so reducing the amount that the choir sings. This tends to vary from performance to performance. It is highly recommended that soloists also purchase the choir part for their selected voice, this will include any extra parts not described above. The soloist package described above comes free when purchased with a chosen voice (IE Soprano; Alto; Tenor or Bass).

For soloists to download the free Soloist package above, the appropriate radio button must be selected for the in the Bonus Download section, otherwise the default Choir bonus will be selected. To obtain the bonus select any of the other "paid for" packages.
